Your privacy is important to Hard Send. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, transfer, and store your personal information. By using the Hard Send website and applications, you agree to the collection and use of your personal information as described here. If you have questions, please get in touch.

Hard Send is a monthly mail subscription platform. Creators make original physical work; fans subscribe; we print that work and mail it. Because we put real objects in real mailboxes, we handle mailing addresses — and this policy is specific about what happens to them.

Hard Send is operated by Felt, LLC. Some of our systems are shared with our Felt product, and where that is relevant we say so below.

Who this policy covers

Hard Send has two kinds of users, and we collect different information from each:

• Subscribers (fans) — people who subscribe to a creator and receive mail.
• Creators (artists) — people who publish work on Hard Send and get paid for subscriptions.

This policy covers both, along with anyone who visits hardsendit.com or applies to become a creator.

What personal information we collect

Information you give us

• Account information. Your name and email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from that provider — see “Signing in with Apple or Google” below.
• Mailing address. If you subscribe, we collect the postal address where you want your mail sent. This is required — we cannot mail you anything without it, and it is shared with the creator you subscribe to. See “What your creator can see” below.
• Birthday (optional). Subscribers may optionally provide a birthday so a creator can send something extra on it. You can leave this blank, and you can remove it later.
• Payment information. Card details are collected and stored by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your card number on our servers. We retain only a token and the last four digits, card brand, and expiration date so you can recognize your own card.
• Creator information. If you are a creator, we collect the artwork and content you publish, your profile details, and the information needed to pay you. Identity and tax details for payouts are collected and held by Stripe under its own terms, not by us.
• Applications and correspondence. If you apply to be a creator or email us, we keep what you send — your name, email, social media handles, and anything else you choose to share.

Information we collect automatically

Our servers automatically record information your browser or device sends when you use Hard Send: your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, referring page, and which parts of Hard Send you use and when. We use this to operate the service, provide customer support, detect abuse, and improve the product.

How we use your information

• To print and mail your subscription. Your name and mailing address are used to produce and post the physical item you subscribed to.
• To run your subscription. Billing, renewals, cancellations, receipts, and account support.
• To send you service messages. Confirmations, billing notices, changes to our terms or this policy, and other messages necessary to your relationship with us. Because these are essential to the service, you cannot opt out of them while you have an active account.
• To send you product news — new creators, features, announcements. You can opt out of these at any time using the unsubscribe link in any such email or by emailing us.
• To maintain and improve Hard Send, including auditing, troubleshooting, security, and analysis of how the service is used.
• To comply with the law and to enforce our terms.

What your creator can see

This deserves its own section, because it is the part people most want to know, and we would rather be direct than bury it.

When you subscribe to a creator, that creator can see your contact details. Specifically, the creator you subscribe to is shown:

• your name;
• your email address;
• your mailing address;
• the date you subscribed, and how long you have been a subscriber; and
• if you cancel, the date you cancelled.

Creators can copy this information out of the Hard Send app — for example, to write your address on something they want to send you directly.

This is how Hard Send works. You are subscribing to receive physical mail from a specific person, and that person needs to know who you are and where to send it. If you would prefer a particular creator not have your name and address, please do not subscribe to that creator.

What creators may not do. We require creators to use subscriber information only for the Hard Send subscription relationship — sending you the work you subscribed to and communicating with you about it. Creators are not permitted to sell subscriber information, disclose it to anyone else, or add you to unrelated mailing lists. If you believe a creator has misused your information, tell us at hi@hardsendit.com and we will act on it.

How we use your address. Separately from the creator, we use your name and address to verify the address, print your subscription item, and post it. We share it for that purpose with the print and mail providers listed under “Service providers we use,” and with no one else except as described in “When we disclose information” below.

Signing in with Apple or Google

Hard Send offers Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google. If you use one:

• We receive only your basic profile information — your name, email address, and a stable identifier for your account — and only after you grant permission on the provider's own screen.
• We use it solely to create and sign you into your Hard Send account, and to contact you about your account as described above.
• We do not request access to your contacts, calendar, files, photos, or mail, and we do not read anything else in your Apple or Google account.
• We never receive your Apple or Google password.
• If you use Apple's private email relay, we receive only the relay address, and that is the address we use.

Hard Send's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically: we use Google user data only to provide the sign-in feature you chose to use; we do not transfer it to others except as necessary to provide that feature, to comply with applicable law, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with notice to you; we do not use it for advertising; and we do not allow humans to read it, except with your specific consent, where necessary for security, to comply with applicable law, or where the data has been aggregated and anonymized.

You can revoke Hard Send's access at any time from your Google Account or, for Apple, from Settings on your Apple device. Revoking access does not delete your Hard Send account — to do that, see “Your choices and your rights” below.

Service providers we use

We use a small number of companies to run Hard Send. They receive only the information needed to do their job, and they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

• Stripe — payment processing, subscription billing, and creator payouts. Card and payout details are held by Stripe under its privacy policy.
• Lob — postal address verification and autocomplete, and print-and-mail delivery.
• Mailgun — sending the emails described above.
• Google Analytics — measuring how the web app is used. This uses cookies and similar technologies as described below.
• Formspree — receiving creator applications submitted from hardsendit.com.
• Google Cloud — hosting and storage.

Cookies and similar technologies

Hard Send uses cookies and similar technologies for two things: keeping you signed in and remembering your session, and understanding how the service is used through Google Analytics. We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers.

We treat information collected by cookies as non-personal information. However, where IP addresses or similar identifiers are treated as personal information under applicable law, we treat them as personal information too. Where non-personal information is combined with personal information, we treat the combination as personal information.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will prevent you from staying signed in.

When we disclose information

Beyond the service providers listed above, we may disclose your personal information:

• When required by law, legal process, litigation, or a request from a public or governmental authority, in or outside your country of residence.
• When we determine that disclosure is reasonably necessary to enforce our terms, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users, the public, or Hard Send.
• In connection with a reorganization, merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we may transfer the personal information we hold to the relevant party. We will give notice before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.

How we protect your information

We take administrative, technical, and physical precautions to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft, and misuse, and against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. Personal information is transmitted to our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and card data is handled by Stripe rather than stored by us.

However, no method of transmission over the internet and no method of electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of information collected from you.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and for as long afterward as is necessary for the purposes described in this policy — including keeping records of what we mailed and what you were charged — unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. Financial and tax records are retained as long as the law requires. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.

Your choices and your rights

You can review and update your name, mailing address, birthday, and payment method at any time from your Hard Send account. You can cancel a subscription at any time from your account.

You may also ask us to:

• Give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct information that is inaccurate.
• Delete your personal information and close your account.
• Stop sending you product and marketing email.

Email hi@hardsendit.com and we will respond. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. Note that deleting your information ends any active subscription, and that we may need to retain certain records where the law requires it.

Children

Hard Send is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it as soon as possible. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us.

International users

Hard Send is operated from the United States, and the service providers listed above process information in the United States. If you are located outside the United States and choose to use Hard Send, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Your use of Hard Send and your submission of information represents your agreement to that transfer.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make a material change, we will post the updated policy here with a new “last updated” date, and we will notify you by email or in the app.
